about

Friend and supporter of the Bass Cadet team, Jenifa Mayanja steps up for the new chapter of the Orbits series. She offers three very personal tracks, carefully crafted, evolving in their own space-time, showcasing a
crossbound vision of deepness and soulfulness. Partner in life, DJ Jus-Ed is also here on the remix duty. This release definitely wraps up a family affair about good vibes !

Opening the EP “Rift” takes its time to build up a pattern of interwoven synths and guitar sounds, playing with delays and effects it reaches a climax sustained by toms and shakers. With a very similar energy “The Journey To Nowhere” would be the perfect track to close a night. Buidling up on small percussions, it finishes on a symphonic play of strings, chords, rides and drums bringing the track to emotional and melancholic effects. “Excessive Matters” is the more original cut on the release. Merging different ideas into a whole, the track goes from deepness to playful, sustained by a nice organic bassline. Closing the EP with his very own inimitable trademark, DJ Jus-Ed also known as the Bridgeport deep techno don delivers a dancefloor version of “The Journey To Nowhere” for the earliest hours of the night.

• About Jenifa Mayanja :
Ugandan born Jenifa Mayanja has been deeply entrenched in the underground deep house music scene since the early 90’s in New York. The underground status that she lays claim to started out as a serious music selector and music buyer at the now defunct legendary record store “Dancetracks”. This also led to an opportunity to learn firsthand about running a record label working for “Spiritual Life” owned by Joe Claussell. Ready to strike out on her own, this led to the creation of the Bumako Recordings label in 2007 which introduced the world to the naturalistic deep house sound connected to Jenifa’s name. Bumako since then has developed a devoted fan base that follows religiously the diverse releases on the label to date almost twenty-five of them including full length albums, cds and digital releases. She’s also involved with two other labels, EDJ she co-owns with her famous other half DJ Jus-Ed, and Sound Warrior she co-created with Dakini 9 to showcase music production exclusively produced by women.

about

Bass Cadet Records Berlin, Germany

Established in 2012, Bass Cadet Records is a story of human beings, the brainchild of many which eventually evolved in a recordstore from 2013 to 2016, seen by many as a community hub, an island of music, culture and fraternity in the heart of Berlin-Neukölln. Orbits is the series which came out of this venture, drawn by the artists that inspired, and supported its life. ... more
