Tolga Fidan strikes in with two deep and dubby techno tracks for his first release on Bass Cadet Records.
These days sound like the start of a new era for Tolga Fidan. With no new solo release since his debut album “Rogue” in 2012, he finally makes a come back with his first 12” on his own Bass Cadet Records label. Having built his reputation on complex sound patterns and high-end accoustics, the half french half turkish producer discovers here a slightly different side of his extended palette. Straight to the point and harsher than usual the two tracker still clearly bears Tolga’s inventive and versatile sound imprint.
On the A-Side, FRA-B-C is an extatic tribal cut lead by a rolling bassline and syncopated tambourines. Underlined by a monotous and heady low string, the tracks develops itself with dubby effects, delays and percussion loops over the course of 8:30 min. The climax is reached when the rhythm breaks and a mid-eastern electric piano collides in with all the other elements. The break ends, the trip goes on and a bumping acid bass takes place until the end. FRA-B-C is an hallucinatory and mind bending effort backing Tolga’s multiple influences. From his roots in Istanbul to his love for dub aesthetics, modern deep techno and ambient sounds, it also has this repetitive twist that wouldn’t contradict his early Vakant years.
On the flipside, Deadface starts on with an utra deep waving sub bass, a stomping kick and a delicate tape hiss. While a 909 hi-hat comes in to settle the rhythm, a sonar sound clearly sets the tone of this submarine dub techno bomb. From there the track builds up. A hazy and delayed analog lead rolls over the bass. Toms come in to sustain the rhythm section. Claps, rides and other shakers open the spectrum towards a brighter range. And then a thin pad starts to expand into a fat synth line and finally takes the advantage. The sonar sound still regularly vibrates as the tracks seems to dive endlessly into the bowels of the deep sea. Deadface is a precious cut for the darkest and deepest hours on the dancefloor, catchy and mental at the same time.
This release is a statement release for Tolga Fidan and his BCR family, we’re are more than happy to see it finally come to light and we hope that you’ll enjoy it as much we do !
